Combining traditional and modern instruments with a rich blend of rhythms, Mokoomba preserves the vibrant sound of traditional Tonga music while embracing the diverse cultures of southern Africa.
They´re the 2008 winners of the Music Crossroads Southern Africa Inter-Regional Festival, the annual competition sponsored by Music Crossroads International for musicians under 25 in Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe & Zambia.
“Perseverance, team work and humility has taken us this far” says bass player Abundance, “We believe the potential for Tonga music is still here to be explored and one day it´ll reach the world at large”.
This wild group certainly has a unique sound that set to take the world music scene by storm !

Just recently they joined the acclaimed Ivory Coast singer & bass player Manou Gallo on stage for the HIFA Festival 2010 in Harare.
After the buzz they created during their European tour last winter, Mokoomba will be back in Europe in June, July and August 2010 !
Gregor Salto is known for his funky sets with a lot Soul, Latin, Jazz, Disco and Afro flavoured House and other beats. Gregorʼs first record was released in 1994 on Outland Records in Amsterdam and many more followed.
He has produced several worldwide hits, of which “Your Friend” is currently topping the charts in South Africa. He is playing all over the world in cities like Johannesburg, Moscow, Madrid and Milan and has played in the top Dutch clubs.
He is also part of the Africa Unsigned music panel.
Mokoomba and DJ Gregor Salto got together for the “Stand Up Take Action – End Poverty Campaign” in 2009 where they recorded the track Messe Messe and several remixes.
Now they want to release more tracks and with only a small amount needed we can make this happen!
