Hello to all of you. My name is Sage. I was born Barbara Chemutai Ng’eno. I am the eighth born in a family of 10 children. I started singing at the age of 5 in front of a congregation in church. My late father took me to the Nairobi conservatoir to learn how to play the piano when I was 9 years old. He died two years later in 1998. I am very thankful to him and my mother for supporting me in developing my musical skills.

My parents brought me up on a wide variety of music, which included, classical music, Ladysmith Black Mambazo (South Africa) and Kenyan catholic choir music . At that time music was never taken as a serious thing to do. My family has been very supportive hence I have been able to compose even though in Kenya a lot of people had told me not to write in English because it was not African. I think that whatever language you write in or sing in does not lessen the message or make you less of a native.

When the $2500 is raised, I intend to make an EP of a maximum of three songs and two remixes. I will then make one good quality video along with it.

At this point in my life I am very fascinated by the works of George Gershwin, which I refer to as tom and jerry music. It is played by the Canadian Brass Band. It is a mixture of jazz and classical music. It has inspired me to write more jazzy music and has made me fall deeply in love with the brass section, which I was least interested in.
