Without a doubt the highlight of Womad this year will be Staff Benda Bilili.

This band of street musicians from Kinshasa, many of them disabled by polio, became one of the revelations of the year when they released their debut album Très Très Fort in spring 2009, a blast of funky Congolese rumba and incredible energy.

Staff Benda Bilili have since toured the world, winning several awards (Songlines – Best Group, Womex -Artist Award, Froots – Album of The Year) and got a standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival 2010 at the premiere of the documentary about their adventure.
