Liz Ogumbo Music Biography
Her parents could not get enough of her music as a child growing up; hence they had weekly entertainment night where Liz would showcase all her songs for the week.
At 5 years of age, she even surprised her family when she got up and sang Fela Kuti, I be lady oh!
Born In 1978 in Nairobi, Kenya and raised in Kenya for most of her youthful years, Liz was sent out to the US for her college and university where she studied Computer science, hit the runways, sang on the side when she got time and got into fashion design and styling.
Liz Ogumbo is a Kenyan multi-talented individual who constantly expresses herself vocally through music and spoken word on both local and other global platforms in English, Swahili, Luo and French, besides her fashion industry Ufundi.
Mainly influenced by jazz, blues, ohangla, ndombolo ya solo and reggae, her musical influences are based on what she perceives as her reality.
Her music inspiration comes from her 5 passions in life; Fashion, Music, Africa, Love and Life
Through her passions, she is inspired on a day-to-day basis; The laughs, the cries, love, Africa, hot politics e.g Obama, Natural calamities that destroy us, a good day, a bad day, good red wine, good fitting jeans, Good loving, her man, hot shoes, her sweet tooth, her mama, her paps, God s love and grace, etc
She is her own lyricist as she writes and expresses her music in a modern way to appeal to a wider audience range, inspiring people and sharing on day-to-day realities.
South East Soul:
South East Soul is a concept she hosts, owns, presents and intends to preserve.
Objective:
Besides gaining more exposure and opportunity within this industry, Liz has come to SA to elevate her sound, explore, create and collaborate with South African artists to bridge the gap between Africans and different cultures.
This is meaningful to Liz to enable Africans to celebrate their creative energies together without cultural and regional boundaries.
South East Soul Artists:
Her first collaboration represents East meets South, MXO represents Timeless African Funk, Bheki Khoza is a true veteran and she is the new fresh exotic buzz. Together she believes we are stronger and South East Soul is testament to that .
South East Soul Sponsor: Mi Fone:
Mi Fone is her sponsor for South East Soul and is Africa’s fastest growing cell phone company who think and believe BIG. With a dream and a vision we believe the World is yours! With Mi Fone being the DAVID in the cell phone business and Liz being a new comer in the BIG world of music; the vision and challenge is similar, hence Liz and Mi Fone support each other.
Other artists liz has worked with:
Bheki Khoza, (SA) MXO (SA), Just a band (Kenya), Andre Manga (LA), Ian Martin (LA), Ukoo Fulani Mau Mau (Kenya), Octave Couplet (SA).
Like life s journey, her first hurdle has been to navigate, blend, prepare and execute no matter what. Seasons have changed since January and every day is another new day with it s challenges and successes, however Liz is determined to take this journey one day at a time.
