Moona is a young beninese artist, of senegalese origines moving recently within the circle of hip hop, wich is surprising considering her rich journey and the maturity of the young woman. She is ambitious, no doubt ! does she have the resources for it? Her first album will soon be out and will confirm it.

Born 10 October 1983, her family circle was inciting her to consider if not an artisitic career, at least a musical adventure. Because, her father, musician, lover of jazz and classical music, was also a patron of the art, it is in this context that while passing in Cotonou, the band Kassav, Rochero and Milia Bell, Aïcha Koné, Edou Bokandé and many other artists were guests at the family house.

Influenced in early childhood by musical styles such as ragtime, rythme & blues, soul, african variety and world music ; nothing was indicating that Moona, who also plays piano, would turn to rap. When asked, she simply answers : « cuz I feel hip hop ! ».

Trained as a lawyer, it is not without difficulty, but with a lot of determination that she managed to combine studies and music.

One has to note that Moona is a member of AURA – Artistes Unis pour le Rap Africain ( United Artists for the African Rap), collective of seventeen rappers representing ten countries of the sub-region who since 2006, started an african and european tour to raise awareness on the rights of children, through the project of «Histoires extraordinaires des enfants du poto-poto » (Fantastic tales of the children of poto-poto); with stopovers in Senegal, Benin, Togo, Guinea-Conakry, Niger, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Mali, Strasbourg…

For her, the Rap, more than a phenomenon of fashion or a fad, is the mean to exorcize her own demons (and ours?) ; and to introduce the debate on the uneasiness of her generation.

As proof, the album which musical ambiance spans from hip hop and modern music will have us rap on coupé-décalé, dance hall, backgounds sonorous softer and muffled… In short, it is a whole universe in the maze where one could get distracted , if one looses sight of the personality itself of the artist.
